Stopping carpet scratching...

So my cats love to scratch the carpet in doorways. We have scratching posts in pretty much every room, which they use, but they just seem to love the doors.
I can't use sticky strips, because obviously I walk through the doors a lot, but I have heard that orange oil is an effective deterrent. Does anyone have any experience of this, or other smell type deterrents?

Mine does this - drives me mad. I have some pepper powder to put down which seems to work. She does try to get into my bedroom at night by scratching the carpet, and when that doesn't work she stands on her hind legs and batters the door with her front paws. If I catch her at it, a quick squirt of water does the trick too. My carpets are wrecked :(

I squirt when I catch them too, it's just they are sneaky and wait till we aren't around...

You can get round scratch posts on ebay that rotate as they scratch, more fun than a normal cat post I suppose.

looks a bit like a carpet covered tombola.

My hall and landing carpet are destroyed by my two. I found a quick squirt with the plant mister stopped them. It was too late by then though.
