jaw was wired on tuesday and will be removed after 6 weeks. the vet gave me a few cans of critical care food which is really soft. should i just keep feeding him this for teh six weeks or does he need to be eating firmer stuff sooner than that?

I'd ring the vet to ask - you don't want him to strain his jaw if he eats normal food too soon.
Hope he's better soon (and that someone more knowledgeable comes along to help Smile ).

We syringe fed for a good couple of weeks, then continued to feed the critical care for a good long period after that - it didn't help that our cat refused to eat anything else - residual pain maybe? Nothing would tempt her at all, it absolutely wrung my bank dry at £1 for a tiny tin but she ate it like it was gold. I'd ask your vet but certainly for us, it was a non-option to try her on hard food for a good couple of months after the accident.
