Cat got neutered yesterday am when can I let him out

He is 3 years old and seems fine after his op but is driving me nuts trying to open the cat flap and crying to get out. Can I let him out?

I let mine out same day, they've been fine. But they aren't big roamers. I think the vet told me it was okay to soon release with boys because of small incisions, but girls tend to take longer to heal. Mine are boys so I didn't ask for girl specifics.
