How to tell a cat's age?

My brother's neighbour died. I took in her cat. Wasn't a cat lover but her little face at the window tugged at my heart strings.

Her owner's family tell me she's around 13 yo. However, everyone says she looks much younger. She has a cute little face and is dead playful.

Is there any way of getting a good idea of her age? Would the vet be able to tell?

The vet would be able to give you a reasonable guestimate. It is not an exact science mainly built on how the teeth look.

Ah ok, thanks Lizcat :-)

I thought mine was a 6 month old by her size, turns out she was 1year old acording to the vet.

The cat I had as a child lived to be 18, it was only in her last couple of years she slowed down.
