Cat scratching/ anxiety / baby safety question!

We've recently adopted a 7 month old cat who the previous owners said did not get on with their own cat.

Since we adopted him he has been scratching some place or other, first his kneck that resulted in a month with a cone and antibiotic cream. Now he's moved on to the sides of his cheeks. Both pathces the same each side. It's so bloody and sore, the vet checked him for fleas and gave him an anti fungal cream which isn't helping so we're coned him again. I think it may be anxiety related personally. He is very friendly and cries when we leave the house. He is strictly indoor aswell. I think it might be that he isn't used to being by himself having had other cats around all the time.

Since we have a young baby, we shut him out of our bedroom at night as we have found him in the cot on several occasions. Has anyone sucessfully used a cat net to protect the baby as I think he may be getting upset he's not allowed in at night.

I also wanted to know if anyone else had a mysterious scratching problem? Thank you in advance, sorry about the long post!

It could be worth having a skin work up including bloods to identify the cause. We are aware that we have been massively under diagnosing allergic skin disease in cats and this can be succesfully treated in a variety of ways.
