Lump on cats leg..

about the size of (albeit squiggy) gobstopper .. can't say how long it's been there, not infected but feel terrible just noticed it (due to small toddling dd always getting over excited cat rarely sits in one place these days!) he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, still eating, walking fine etc.
He's getting on for 12 this year. Obviously need to take to vets, but, just wondering.. is it something awful, do I need to rush him there asap ? - DH (not overly keen on cat) 'kindly' suggested it was a tumor ??

I'm not a vet, or anything like that - just so you know.

Thank you for your level headed thoughts tabula.. I think I'm just feeling guilt pangs as feel he's been 'neglected' since baby came along and to suddenly feel this lump made me feel terrible.

I swear lumps appear overnight - I mean, I know they can't, but I've had tumours, cysts, yon fatty lumps, on cats, guinea pigs and dogs over the years and I'm sure they sneak up on you...just one day you spot it and you've no idea how you could have missed it the day before, lol

ahh you are very kind to take the time to reassure me and make me feel better that I am not a neglectful/irresponsible cat owner ! As you rightly say, I'm sure it has just sprung up - he does still get attention and climbs on sofa for a snuggle once dd is out of sight !
