Elderly cat with blood in urine?

It sounds like cystitis, doesn't it?

She's 15 and a half (with only 3 grey hairs on her, bless her) and has always been a bit skittish and antisocial. More so these days though, and prone to calling mournfully around the house and unable to settle.

She must have the urge to wee really frequently as she was only in the house for about 1 minute and she headed for a pile of newspapers in the lounge (litter tray was out). She only managed a few drops, and they were red Sad.

Then I saw her outside in her litter tray, and she was squatting for ages. Poor thing hardly managed a drop.

Vets for us tomorrow.

Cystitis can be a sign of decreased kidney function in geriatric cats. Mournful wailing and increasingly skittish behaviour possible signs of an over active thyroid. Is she losing weight? Good Luck at the vets, maybe ask about these other problems, they can be picked up on a blood test

this happens to my cat when she is stressed - it's really horrible for them, so please take her to the vets asap.

She has had an anti inflammatory injection + cystease (which I now buy on-line & have stock in, for future occurrences)

Been to the vets. She has a urine infection so had a jab and a 10 day supply of antibiotics.

I mentioned her skittishness and he queried a problem with her thyroid. Plan is to get her well from this infection then tackle the possible thyroid.

Thanks everyone.
