Is my cat paranoid or erm ...

'wanking' kind of?

he keeps cuddling right up to me, pawing me with all 4 paws really aggressively & pounding me. He sometimes even holds onto me/clothes with his teeth (like biting on a pillow type thing) but not hard.

This goes on for a few minutes then he kind of shudders/jerks. Lies still for a while then it all starts again.

I thought at first he was in pain or emotionally paranoid, now I'm wondering if it's fulfilling some other 'need' of his?

He only does it to me - no-one else.

And he does it EVERY time I sit down or lie down - it is intruding on my life quite a bit!

I have to post & run, but would love to know what is going on - and can I stop it somehow? He is literally following me around the house then jumping on me everytime I stop.

My un-neutered tom would hump things. How old, & is he fixed?

kickassangel · 18/03/2012 18:16

He is about 9 and has been fixed.

We adopted him from friends about 6 months ago, and 3 months ago took in another cat. No other pets.

He's always been a bit clingy, and I'm definitely 'Mona cat' but this is new and constant!

But he is able to sleep fine, so I don't think he's in pain.

He doesn't do this with anyone or anything else. Just me.

It seriously interferes with my ability to mn

But he lures me and sleeps on my bed every night

oh yeah, didn't see 4 kicking legs, that is a fighting thing, mating behaviour is no paws, but a firm bite to the back of the neck and brief humping (wish I didn't know that!). 2 kneading paws with claws is nursing behaviour, whereas hunting practice looks like play to us.

Cats are 95% driven by instinct, so yes, I guess it's a "need" of his! I'd lock him out sometimes.

Mine go crazy for feathers (and random pigeon castoff will do), I wonder if you gave him some feathers to play with if he'd leave you alone for a while.

Hunting!
Wow,

He also sits on my head and licks me in bed.

Can't put him outside. We have coyotes round here Smile

Yes - we have various fish/cloth/scratch posts etc, but he is v lazy (and very fat - we 'inherited' him like this), so I think he actually needs one of us to engage him, whereas the other one will pounce on his toys etc.

I see dd being in charge of 'kitty boot camp'

My cat likes me to wrestle with him Hmm. Maybe he wants a wrestling playmate?

kickassangel · 19/03/2012 16:39

The two cats wrestle quite a lot anyway. I suppose if he thinks I'm momma cat, he will want to wrestle with me. Or he might be trying to be in charge - the newer stray has def taken the post of top cat.

He used to just like curling up to sleep, I shall have to get more physical with im.

thanks for all these ideas. dh is highly amused that he may be thinking I'm his prey!

Kong have a toy called a kickeroo that is long so that cats can kick at it with all their paws, like when hunting, here

kickassangel · 23/03/2012 21:40

Thanks for that, I will investigate
