Cat just been castrated. Quick question

My cat has just come home after being neutered and I noticed that his 'balls' are still there! Is this normal? I'm sure none of my previous male cats had anything left there. Sorry to be dim...feel too embarrassed to call the vet and ask!

I would be confused. Both of my cats came back with a very flat arrangement.

Some boys get some post op swelling that disappears after a few days, check this is not hot or uncomfortable and that there is no discharge. If any of these are present contact your vet.

SoupDragon · 29/02/2012 10:37

I was told that they "may look like they're still there but I can assure you they've been removed"

In all honesty, I think it very unlikely a competent vet could accidentally forget to take them off :)

Betti · 29/02/2012 14:03

Well he's been shaved so they obviously were operating on the right end but they are definitely still dangling! Will assume it's swelling and take another look tomorrow.

Mine still has two lumps there, but he was hung like a elephant pre op.

People assume he is a tom sometimes. I was expecting them to be flat to but I was told they sometimes stay as lumps.

dobby2001 · 01/03/2012 00:05

Ah yes, my boy was done three weeks ago and still has small lumps, but they are very "deflated balloon" like compared to before. The nurse told me that some cats it all shrinks away and some it just stays like it does abeit much smaller.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 01/03/2012 00:10

When we take them off, it's usually done through 2 small incisions in the scrotum- scrotum itself isn't removed, so if he was, er, a big boy, scrotum may take a while to shrink to fit!

I've had a couple of patients (mainly dogs!) presented to me with them "grown back", so you are not alone in wondering! If there is any redness, or he is licking a lot, pop him back in to your vet for a check up.

My boys had a nick in the nuts and the actual nut removed. That was more or less how it was explained to me.
A cat we had in forrin parts, had his off and, post op looked like he had a smear of pate under his tail. He ended up looking more like a girl than his sister.

Hahaha, your posts have made me chuckle!!! Thank you all, my worries have been allayed! This morning they most certainly do look like deflated balloons. Poor lad!
