Tail sucking kitten

We have a kitten (11 weeks old) which has taken to sucking his own tail (with a horrible slobbery noise). Will this be a problem, do we need to try and stop him doing that please?

My cat (as a kitten) used to suckle her vetbed fake sheepskin until it was really wet. When she'd been here a few weeks we removed it, but obviously you can't do that with your kittens tail! It seems to be a self comforting behaviour, even if they haven't been taken from their mothers very early.

I suppose you could distract the kitten when he does it, with a toy or something to chase. Then you could offer a cat treat for being a good kitten and playing which is a desirable behaviour. There is a risk he could make his tail quite sore if he keeps on doing it. My kitten liked 'Milky flake ums' ridiculous name for a treat, but they are especially for kittens and are like flat white rice krispies. You can get them from Pets at Home.

My cat doesn't suckle things anymore, but she still kneads clothing with glazed eyes!

My kitten did this too, he went round with a permanently soggy tail. He is now 9 months and huge, but still occassionally does it, obviously a baby still.
