How did your older cat react to a new kitten?

I have a gorgeous 11 year old tabby male who is pretty laid back although can be a little sulky at times. He accepted dd easily when she was born 6 years ago and has never laid a paw on her! We've now been offered a kitten from a friend of a friend who took in a cat who then gave birth a few weeks later. I'm
Just wondering how other people's older cats have reacted to having another cat in the house? He has always been the only cat.

Never had an ongoing problem -maybe a bit of a spat for the first few days. I used to keep in separate rooms initially, getting used to each other's smell. Rub kitten with blanket or something that has other cat's smell on. Good luck!

Our old girl is 15 and has been on her own (with 2 dogs) since our other cat died three years ago.
We took in a 9 wk old kitten just before christmas and I was slightly disappointed the older cat didnt 'mother' him as he was quite distressed when we got him.
We let them meet and sniff each other in their own time.
Anyway, there hasn't been any growling or yodelling or puffed up tails but she has put in his place and shown him who is the boss a few times with a well aimed swipe.
They chase each other round the house and play with each others paws round the door but I'm not sure when we'll be seeing them snuggling up together.

i have five cats and the victor meldrew in the pack is my 12 year old female, whenever i have brought kitten or in the case of jasper and jo jo two kittens home she has hissed at them to let them know shes the boss, tried starving them by eating thier food, then left home for a couple of days sulking and then when she realised those tactics wouldnt work she was fine, ps jasper and jo jo are 5 yrs old now and they get on fine, and i have never done the seperate rooms just let them get on with it, just made sure the older cat had somewhere to go if the bouncy kits got too much for her,
