Moving house - advice

All suggestions gratefully received. Moving across town so no long journey. We have two cats, the older one aged 11 years and the other, 7 months. Should I take the cats first to an empty house and make sure they are shut in one room with their favourite chair, blanket and the litter tray while the rest of our possessions are moved into the rest of the house?

Or, do I leave them at the old house while furniture etc (we are leaving some furniture as the old house is to be let) is moved out around them, and just take them near the end?

The third option is to take them to a cattery overnight but the older cat hasn't been to one for about 9 years and the young one, never.

Thanks!

I would go for the cattery option, it's only for a night and they could share a pen. All the furniture removal and upheaval around them , or being shut in a strange place would be more stressful IMO. Then you can collect them when everything is reasonably calm?
