18 year old cat and recurrent UTI issues - what to do?

My cat is getting urinary problems almost monthly at the moment. She either gets cysytitis and strains out small bloody wees everywhere, or gets these wierd urinary tract blockages that eventually she wees out that cause her a lot of discomfort. We seem to live at the vets and there isnt really any cure since its to do with liver disease, which sadly will take its course. The best we can do is give anti biotics as and when. I just dont know how long we can go on treating her like this tho. We have no pet insurance so its a lot of money. But how can you put a pet down for money reasons Sad Equally, shes in discomfort a lot these day. But is fine when shes fine, IYKWIM. Anyone coped with similar?

It sounds like you are in the no wrong time land as to when make the decision for your beloved pet. She is obviously having quite a lot of bad days at the moment. For most pet owners (after all only around 15% are actually insured) money does come into it at some point. I see owners every single week who are struggling with these kind of decisions, have a chat with your vet as the vast majority of us are more than happy to talk to you and help you reach a decision that is right for you and your family.
