Cat with eye infection

My poor cat obviously has an eye infection. Her eyes were a bit crusty earlier, she slept all day then woke with eyes swollen nearly shut and revolting yellow gunk all round them. The vet can't see her until Tues and has suggested cleaning them with water until then. Is there anything else I could do for her in the meantime?

Bit late I'm afraid but, my two boys got horrible eye infections. I went to the pharmacist and bought some clorempehicol OTC. First I cleaned their eyes with cotton wool. Scrupulously changing it between swipes, and saline. Then used the drops four times a day.
It only took two applications before we saw a difference.
