Hi, we have a 17 year old rescue cat who is being treated for hypethyroidism. She is responding to the medication but her heart rate still remains elevated. Yesterday something odd happened with her limbs, she was walking across the table and her left front leg contracted upwards and she couldn't move it, her back legs gave way and she fell onto her back. We rushed her to the vet but she was fine by the time we got there. They ran some tests but she is a difficult cat so they were not able to check her blood pressure or do an ultrasound. We are also aware that she is an old lady and don't want too many evasive tests done.
The vet suspects that she may have blood clots in her heart that broke off and effected the blood supply to her legs. I agreed with this conclusion but some of the symptoms don't fit as she is in no pain when it happens and is having no difficulty in breathing. It happened again today and I put her somewhere quiet and she recovered again, she does not appear to be in pain so I am not sure now about the blood clot theory?
Has anybody else experienced this, could it be a pinched nerve or a problem with her brain?
Any ideas would be welcome, I am just waiting for a call back from the vet.
Thanks
