Our new kitten won't eat

we picked up our gorgeous 8 week old yesterday, she is a confident little thing and doesn't seem at all fazed by the children or the brief meeting with the Newfoundland, but she will just not eat - so far I have tried the food that she came with and the some felix kitten, but she is just not interested.

Any suggestions please, she is weeing, pooing, playing, sleeping and drinking as expected - I am starting to get a little worried about her.

She will eat but she's still settelling in, try her with a bit of boiled chicken breast.

Phone your vet and ask them when to start to worry.

It's a big change for a little animal, our breeders never released our cats until 12 weeks. 8 weeks is very young to be away from mom. I think if left to their own devices most kittens this age would still be with mom for a couple of weeks before the mum kicks them out.

Take her to the vet (before they shut for Christmas and you have to deal with mega expensive emergency vet fees).

She's probably just settling in and will be fine, but the same thing happened to me after I'd had mine for one day and I took him to the vet while my boyfriend mocked me for over reacting and it turned out he had a sore throat which was making it painful for him to eat. Vet gave him a jab and he hasn't stopped eating since.

Oh, and don't you know that if you announce you have a kitten it's the law you have to put a photo up?

ItsSnowDarling · 21/12/2011 15:09

Thank you for all the replies I will ask when I pop into the Vets tomorrow for medication for our elderly dog.

Sorry to have broken the law - a picture is now on my profile!

oh what a sweetie Xmas Smile Check with the vet but it's probably just that she's a little nervous and so much to see in the new house!

Not sure if she needs medication if she is otherwise well...you could save yourself a few quid by trying to tempt her....our kitten wouldn't eat at first- I ended up giving her (warmed!) kitten milk, first licked off my finger then a spon then a saucer, then mashed up (warmed!) whiskas kitten mixed with milk then eventually just the food. It was worse than a bloody baby! She eats fine now, but refuses dry food. Good luck!

Awwww, she's lovely. Any luck with getting her to eat yet?

ItsSnowDarling · 21/12/2011 23:06

I've tried mixing with a bit of her kitten milk tonight and she had a bit, but managed to leave a lot of the kitten food! She has just nibbled on a very small piece of cheese and is meowing for more in between tearing round the bedroom like a mad thing!

I will see what tomorrow brings...
