Has anyone's cat become stuck under a house...

...and did they live to tell the tale?

Just brought cat to new house, he escaped from 'safe room' within five minutes and found his way under the stairs, where there is a hole (for stopcock) and a further smaller hole beyond that - he's gone down it.

The house is built on a hill and I think there is quite a lot of space under it. I can't hear him at all and usually he's quite vocal. Worried that he might have fallen some distance and hurt himself, or can't get back up to the hole to get out.

Any tips on what to do? I'm distraught.

I've known of cats to go under houses and come out OK. Is there any way from under the house to the outside world? First thing to do is to put some really smell, yummy food in your house above the hole he went down into. Tinned tuna or something. Give him peace, he might just come back for it when he's hungry. Then go and check outside and around the house - see if there's anywhere he could have got out and if there is, leave food out for him. I would say that if you don't see or hear him in the next couple of hours, then it might be worth calling upon a builder to see if there's anyway they can get to him. You might have a hatch that a human can get down with a torch?

This happened to a friend of mine and she had to call the fire brigade, who used heat seeking equipment to locate him and then took the floor boards up.

Can you hear him moving around at all??

Sorry to disappear. I've not heard a peep from him all day. Have left smelly food outside the hole and called to him a few times but nothing...

I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any other way out, going to leave it for tonight and hope he comes out under cover of darkness .

A few days you say, before calling a builder to take the floor up? Gosh I really hope it doesn't come to that :(

Poor pusso, I hope he's ok and just hiding.

Good news! He came up from under the floor and poked his head out of the hole - gone back in now but it's a good start I suppose!

Well thats a relief! Little sods always find a new way to stress you out.

I wonder if you have mice/spiders under there and he's having too much fun to want to come out?

Ah well, if he can get in and out then no harm done :) I bet he'll love having a private bolt hole!
