Doorway is cat party central - HELP!

Hoping some cat-loving mnetters will have some advice

Just moved into a new ground floor apartment and have found that our doorway and the attached meter cupboard seem to the favoured hangout of all the local kitties. So basically it stinks of tomcat spray

Is bleaching it all the best thing to remove the smell? Or will it just encourage them to come back and piss everywhere again to make it smell nice to them again?

Are there any sprays or plants I can use to repel them or discourage them from returning?

Hot water and bio washing powder is best. Bleach encourages them

Does anyone in your block have an un neutered female cat? They not there for no reason.

Or you can get sprays from vets/pet shops that are designed to clean pet smells. If you use anything with ammonia, they think it still smells of pee. Best plan is to squirt them with a water pistol if they mooch. There is a plant called Scaredy cat (can't think the proper name) that is supposed to repel them.

I knew I'd read something once upon a time that said bleach just encouraged them. Like the bio- washing power idea so will give that a try. Need to look for a repellant spray though - there are about 4 or 5 different cats lurking so no idea who is the target and who are the suitors!
