Talk to me about infection :(

3-4 days ago, my 16 year-old tortie girl seemed a bit of-colour to me. She was quieter than normal and not as interested in her food. While she wasn't drinking a lot more, the drinking sound seemed louder.

so we took her to the vets 2 days ago. The vet didn't take bloods. Just checked her teeth and gums, pulse, and felt the rest of her body.
She couldn't find anything wrong that suggested something sinister like a tumour or kidney failure, so concluded it's an infection and gave us some antibiotics to give her twice a day for ten days.

We have now given her 2 days worth and there is no improvement yet. She eats a tiny amount but drinks water and uses the toilet (not excessively). she just sleeps. the vet said to come back in 5 days if no improvement and blood tests would be done then.

Do you think 5 days is too long too wait given she's tiny and old?
Do her symptoms sound like infection or is the vet incompetent and should have done bloods in the first place?
Where would she have an infection from anyway? She's an indoor cat.

It's such a worry. I don't want this to be the end.

I think the antibiotic hasn't kicked in yet, see how she is after the 5 days. It doesn't seem as though she's in pain, just off colour. I think the vet needed more symptoms to indicate what to test for, before taking blood.

No, I don't think she's in pain. More lethargic. She usually has her little routine of food, play, time at the window, grooming, sleep etc and now it's just sleep and her looking sad.

Do cats really get things like that and are fine after?
I think I've always been lucky with very healthy cats so am clueless.
