Advocate - cheapest?

My vet reckons the only superior cat flea treatment is Advocate, which they prescribe and supply. I've had a quick look on the internet to see if I can get it any cheaper, many websites won't let you buy it without a vet prescription.

Just wondering if anyone else gets Advocate online at a lower price, preferably without asking my vet for a prescription as they're not exactly the most helpful of surgeries.

Check if it's got the same active ingredients as the prescription one by checking a site like pets at home. Just be extra careful with following the directions and using the correct dose for your cats weight. They usually specify in groups rather than to the exact gram so don't be intimidated!

Will be watching this with interest as I'm desperate for flea stuff that actually works.

Advocate is a prescription only medicine so must either buy from a vet or have a prescription to buy from a pharmacy such as those on-line. Advantage as best suggests has the imidacloprid that advocate has in it that kills live fleas, but does not contain the moxidectin which kills the worms so you need to use a roundworm tablet as well as Advantage.
Your vets should provide you with a prescription, but they can charge you for it. Around £12 inclusive of VAT would be the normal kind of charge - though they are free to charge what they like.

Be very wary of what you buy online. Pets have died as a result of overdosing and counterfeit treatments being sold online.

Great stuff, thanks for the links. My vets aren't usually that helpful but will find out how much they charge for prescriptions and weigh it up.
