New kitten and older cat throwing a hissy fit

I think this is normal?? Older cat is a two year old male Maine Coon, new kitten is small moggy. Kitten is not fazed at all by large hissing tabby - she runs after him, he hisses and growls at her and runs away. I am shutting her in the kitchen tonight with her food, litter tray and comfy bed in travel box, which she seems to like, but how long will it take before I no longer have to invigilate Cat Wars?

We have the same here. Our older cat is about 7 and we got a kitten in April. Kitten isn't phased by the cat at all, but the cat wasn't and still isn't impressed with the kitten.

Older cat will now not come into the living room at all and does spend less time in the house, but tbh she isn't keen on any other cats so i'm not really surprised.

Ive got 2 older cats and 2 kittens, one of the older cats took to the kittens immediately, the other hissed at them and was not impressed.

It has taken about 4 months, now the older cat tolerates the kittens with the odd hiss. The kittens have also learnt to leave her alone. They all sleep at the top of the stairs together now. I have even seen the kittens right next to her sleeping and she gives them a rare lick on the head!

They are having a love-in now. Grin Large cat has given kitten a good wash and they are curled up asleep together! Bless!
