Why does my cat keep weeing not in the litter tray?

Cat is 11 and we moved here a bit over a year ago. As it is a rented house we can't fit a cat flap, which is what she was used to, so need to have a litter tray. During the day time she is mostly able to get outside but sometimes she needs to use the litter tray. Why does she keep weeing totally not in the litter tray? Poos go where they should, and the wee is next to the tray (at least she isn't going and weeing in corners or something I suppose).

Am getting a bit annoyed by it, but obviously if something is wrong, or if there is something I can do to put it right, I would like to.

try different ones. I have three cats and two of them will use any litter tray, but one of them will only use the pink expensive non clumping expensive gravelly expensive type

or she will protest pee in the handbasin.

My cat does something similar, the little shit (we've had a quite serious falling out this morning!)
We live in rented houses too, but he picks one place in EVERY house to piss in, usually a corner behind the TV or next to a bookcase. Thank god he always chooses a wooden floor...
We've asked several vets why he does it, and they can't come up with any answer; it's not every day, he will go weeks between doing it, then we'll get three in a row. We think it's not having his litter tray absolutely spotless: if there's one wee or poo in his tray, that's when we get the puddles.
Is she just not aiming properly, do you think? Or trying to keep away from some other mess in her tray?

Thank you - was wondering about the litter although she's had the same one for a few months (since before H left and that was 4 months ago). Maybe she is having trauma at him having left? This litter is a slightly more expensive one - maybe she wants the cheap stuff back

Last night's one was just after I had cleared it out so seemingly not a problem with anything else in there.

I suppose I remember my gran's cat who got kidney problems and it started with wees in odd places so am probably a little worried about that sort of thing.

Could be a urinary infection - they apparently pee elsewhere if peeing is painful as they associate the pain with the litter tray iyswim. That's just what I read though so may not be true

Could she just be missing the tray? One of mine puts his back paws on the edge of the tray and so always missed, solved it by getting a covered tray.

I think I need CCTV to see what she is actually doing . Sound asleep next to me at the moment of course, looking very lovely :)

My female cat started missing the tray, which meant the wee would hit the wall and go down the back and underneath. She obviously wees backwards quite high! I solved this by placing her kitten sized tray upright at the back of the big litter tray like a splashback, and blobs of blutack to stick it to the wall. Problem solved!

Sometimes it is litter related in some cats, they will not use a previously used/soiled tray. Another thing, as your cat is 11 it might be age related, she might have joint stiffness and not be able to squat down quite as low as she used to, so it goes over the side of the tray.

I would try a covered in litter tray, we got ours in argos for about £15.

Our cat used to miss but only for poos.

DH locked him in the kitchen overnight but shut the conservatory door without thinking. Cat did a wee by the kettle. And a poo in the sink.

That sink has never been cleaned so well as that morning.

I managed to catch Dcat in the act of litter tray use last night and she did a wee perfectly in the litter tray . So am hoping the puddles were a short term thing. Although will consider changing litter, litter tray and taking her to the vet if anythung changes.
