I need advice about FabCat please.

I can't find my looooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg thread about how worried I am about her so will summarise here.

She is 16 and her kidneys are failing. She also has other problems including arthritis but she has quality of life and seems happy.

She is refusing point blank to eat the renal wet food. She is refusing to eat normal food with medicinal powder added. It was very stressful as she missed 3 meals rather than eat it. I said to the vet I would rather she had a shorter but happier life eating normal food and he agreed. He said she is doing fine but when her blood tests are not great we have 90 days left.

I am really struggling with what I said as I don't want her to die. I feel I am sentencing her to an early death by not making her eat the food but her refusing 3 meals shows she won't eat what she doesn't want too. She has always been a madam.

In your situation, I would do the same. FabCat will feel much worse not eating anything at all. I know you don't want to lose her, but this is really about what she wants now. I'd celebrate the madam spirit that she still has, bless her. She knows you care.

Can you disguise the medicine in something smell and yummy for her, then feed her as normal?

I agree though, eating and being happy until she dies is better than not eating and starving.

Do you still have the wet food? Can you mix some in with normal food or would she know?

She is wise to everything. This is the cat who said she had swallowed her tablet and then I found it at the other end of the kitchen!

She sometimes refuses roast chicken! She is allowed a bit on a Sunday whereas before she would eat as much as she was allowed, now she will sniff and walk away.

As a vet I always feel that the renal food is great if they eat it if they don't it is much more important that they eat rather than what they eat. My old girl cat doesn't take all the stuff I could give her because it makes her miserable, she just takes the right stuff to keep the balance right.

She was eating it no problem for quite a while and I don't know why she has refused it since. Some days she looks tatty and old and then others she plays with her toys. It is upsetting seeing her jump up on the sofa and misjudge and nearly slip off . She is having her next check up next week.

In my opinion, it's much more important that she gets to live how she wants to rather than a bit longer...besides not eating isn't good for her health either.

I only got home half an hour ago and she was miaowing for food. I gave her biscuits as she hasn't eaten much of her breakfast but she has left them . It could of course just have been her shouting at me that I didn't tell her I would be late home . Vet next week for her.
