how expensive are vet bills?

My friends cat had kittens and she's offered me one, I really really want to take her, she's the most gorgeous little thing I've seen.

But I'm worried about Vet bills, we're not wealthy by any means, altho we would be able to offer the cat a loving and ocmfortable home, I want to ensure any family pet has the best healthcare, so how much roughly per year do vet bills come up too, I really cannot afford thousands.

Well neutering and microchippings best part of £50, another £50 for vaccinations I have them all cos you never know what their going to pick up, £6 a month flea treatment (frontline my friends kitten nearly died from supermarket sold well known flea collar) £4 four times a year for worming.

Then you've got the occaisonall vet trip for injurys esp when their young cos they do the most stupid things like falling off the roof onto the patio.

Vets consultation costs £25 where I go then he often needs antibiotics, cat nurofen (you can't use human painkiller some if them will kill a cat in 4 hours).

Oh and you can't have lillies in the house/garden cos any part of the plant ingested eg pollen licked off fur will also kill them due to kidney failure.

I don't mean go be a mood Hoover but mine cost me more than we thought.

We had moggies and Persians when I was small and the Persians needed less vet visits than the moggie.

And they bugger off till midnight when you've been calling them since 9pm then come in like what? I was out ok? In a kind of kevin the teenager way whilst you've been worrying the fox has eaten them.

My vet does monthly plan thing which covers the cost of all flea/worm stuff and yearly vaccs. You'll need to cover the cost of neutering, most vets should offer to chip at the same time for a reduced fee.

Insurance is the other thing to consider, you may not use it for years but the one time you do you will be thankful it's there.

Other than that they're pretty cheap to feed and groom.

Friend says she's a home cat, prefers staying inside and playing with her toys, I assume this will change as she grows older?

Yes they stay in sometimes as kittens but get braver as they get older and start going out more.
