Can female cats spray?

I am a bit thick but my female cat seems to be spraying around the house, either that or another cat is getting in. Is this possible and is there anything I can do to prevent this?

I thought only Toms sprayed.

yes they can. I had a female cat who used to spray. thankfully she only ever did it up the plants outside.
