Cat going off on jaunts

We have got a new rescue cat. Hes lovely and so friendly and seems to have settled well into our manic house. He has lived with children and animals before so after the initial hissing at the dogs, they didnt seem to bother. We have had him 18days now and were planning on keeping him inside for a month but last week he escaped as we were coming in. Was out for about 4hrs and then just turned up on the front door step.

Resolved to be more careful but again saturday afternoon DS1 opened the front door and the cat legged it. No sign of him all afternoon & evening so I unlocked the cat flap so he could get in but not out. He strolled in sunday morning as if nothing had happened, walked past the dogs, jumped on my bed and started purring. Normal morning yesterday where he had breakfast, got cuddles from the children and then went to sleep on the window sill in the sun. Going out yesterday lunchtime he legged it through our legs as we opened the front door.

Fast forward to tonight and he's not reappeared. No sign of him. have walked round shaking his biscuits but nothing. We lived on the edge of woods so he could be anywhere.

I'm worried sick. He's microchipped, wearing a collar but his new ID tag arrived today but I don't have the cat to attach it too.

Please reassure me that he will come back. The children are asking for him and I'm beginning to worry. His original home isnt local so its not as if he's retracing his steps.

Hello,
saw your post, and could not ignore it.
I am sure he will come back.
One of my cats, Velcro, disappeared for 3 1/2 week a few years ago, and he managed to return home. I was convinced he was dead.
I know exactly how it feels, i really do.
let me know what happens.
Thinking of you,
xx

Just wanted you to know that i am thinking of you.xx

Has he come back yet? If not wait until it's quiet in the evening and then rattle a box of cat biscuits/treats as loudly as you can and call for him.

If still no joy put up posters as my friend's cat went 'missing' once but turned out to have moved in with the old lady next door who fed her roast chicken, and the lady didn't think anyone was missing the cat until she saw a poster..

Hope he comes back soon.

Handed out flyers & keep going out shaking treat box. No sign :(

Am beginning to think he's not coming back this time. Maybe the house is just too busy for him with 2 DC who want to stroke him, two friendly dogs & a young neutered female cat who thinks shes a dog. I know he's used to animals & kids but maybe he just thinks we are too much :( :( :(

Give it time. Cats can be extremely resiliant. xx

Keep the faith - I had given up on Harry Potter our rescue cat a few weeks ago when she was out for 3 nights. She reappeared to our huge delight and had obviously either had a bit of a fight or maybe an accident of some kind. She's still recovering but is essentially right as rain again. I also felt terribly guilty about whether it was our fault for not providing the 'right' kind of house for her. I'm keeping fingers crossed for you.

fledtoscotland · 10/05/2011 18:11

Thankyou everyone. We have had torrential rain for the last 48hrs so I figure he's taken cover somewhere. Keeping fingers crossed he will just stroll in like he did on Sunday

Any news?

fledtoscotland · 19/05/2011 07:46

Nothing :( he's been gone for 12 days now. No squished cats on the roads nearby, no response to flyers/posters. No friends have seen him.

I don't think we were told the truth about him and he was freaked by the dogs. I personally think he didn't like it here and has moved into another house. He never seemed settled/relaxed at all on hindsight :(
