It's been there since yesterday morning. He's had one before and the vet said it would drop off by itself - which it did the next day. Just wondering how long is normal for these things really! Anyone?

Have you got any flea spray? It will kill it so it will drop off quicker. Don't try to remove it though.

No :( I won't pull at it. I just want it to hurry up and drop off! Horrible things! Yuck!

You can get a tick remover from your vets, or put Frontline directly onto the tick and it will kill it. Use Frontline during tick season, it's the best thing to keep them at bay for cats.

Check out youtube for removal technique. My cat managed to get one between his toes in innercity london. Fuck knows how. I managed to get it out. The vet said it was OK as ticks in Uk don't carry the nasties they do abroad. He also said that if you leave the head in, it's not ideal but it should work its way out eventually. You can get a special tool but I did it with tweezers, and left the head in. Put some dettol on it. Was fine.
