Does anyone else have a "licky" cat?

Our Maine Coon licks our hands - it seems to be when he is feeling affectionate - when he is curled up next to me purring, he will put a huge paw on my hand and start licking it. He also likes to suck my thumb. Confused

He also licks my nose to wake me up in the morning, which is quite sweet, but less so when he goes for the lips and sticks his tongue in.

Our big fat ginger furball licks anything he can.

He licks my eyes in the mornnig, or any part of us that is not covered! He wanders round with his tongue half out looking for skin to lick!

I am Envy that you have a Maine coon.

Ah sounds gorgeous!

Our lovely girl "cleans/grooms" DH but not me.
They have a strange relationship when he has blackheads on his nose he offers up his nose and her raspy tongue cleans them out every time (which I think is Vomtastic but dh and the cat think is fine!!)

Our ginger cat will lick anything she can find - she was sitting on my partners knee the other night, he had his legs crossed so there was a slight gap - and she put her head between the gap & started licking away at something, i just happened to look over and it looked so rude but couldnt stop laughing at her! she was licking the end of her tail, but so wished id filmed it and sent it to youve been framed!

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/05/2011 11:13

He is lovely - he came from a refuge, and why anyone would get rid of him, I have no idea (although he can be "playfully" bitey at times). He has wonderfully long ear hair and I often "style" it for him and curl it attractively. Unfortunately he also has wonderfully long bum hair and sometimes gets a bodgy nut stuck on it, after he has used his box. [ick]

our (male) cat sucks his nipple Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/05/2011 22:46

His own nipple? A male cat, you say? Are you sure it's his nipple that he's sucking? GrinGrin

Mine is very licky and dribbly. It's affection, he wouldn't do it to just anyone.

SecretNutellaFix · 04/05/2011 22:48

Yes. You can't pass our boy cat without him trying to lick your feet. He will quite happily sit draped over my shoulder and lick my left hand for hours.

sharbie · 04/05/2011 22:54

i have 3 cats - one biter one dry licker and one drooly licker
the dog sucks my thumb
my siamese sucks something of his - i wdn't like to say what for sure

NotaMopsa · 04/05/2011 22:57

My white girl washes us all the time - only people she loves mind! My black boy will occasionally lap if really loved up . Cats rock especially lickers!

noddyholder · 04/05/2011 22:58

We had a maine coon like that and now have a big fat silver chinchilla persian and he does it too!

MissFoodie · 04/05/2011 22:59

am v jealous......wish my tabby would give me licks.... :(

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/05/2011 22:59

i have one licky cat and one not so licky....

dunno why she does it but i think its quite sweet! she loves being combed and licks when she feels affectionate

my dd said she had to take her out of her room at 3am....she was trying to sit on her face! she tends to curl up with dd like a big cuddly toy, but this was a step too far even for dd!

BubblesMyBubbles · 04/05/2011 23:02

only when i have tuna, chicken or marmite on my hands will she go near. that is the only time.
she licks herself incessantly so makes up for it that way.

bruffin · 11/05/2011 22:37

My rescue cat licks us mainly first thing in the morning when she comes to visit us in bed if the dcs have let her out of the dining room, or if I am sitting here on the pc. We got her in february and she had had kittens in November, so we wondered if she was missing them. She was very young herself.

I am jealous, I want a Maine Coon Envy

smugmumofboys · 11/05/2011 22:40

My ginger boy licks, which is lovely, except it's often an intro to a nibble.

sprinkles77 · 12/05/2011 16:31

My mum's cat did this. liked woollen jumpers. probably had jumper fluff in his fur balls.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/05/2011 21:54

He also takes all the small teddies from DD2's bedroom, carries them off in his mouth and gives them a good lick. His favourite is a small white dog, which is now grey. I was wondering if he would be the same with a kitten.

He is a lovely big furry boy. Grin

My rosie sometimes carries a little toy lamb around with her , MesS.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 12/05/2011 22:03

Our Coonie loves to lick paper - no idea why, but he loves the stuff Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/05/2011 22:56

Ours also "covers" leftover food - he scrapes the floor around his bowl of pussy nobbles for ages when he's had enough. He hoicked up a huge furball the other day on the bathroom floor. DD1 had abandoned her knickers on the floor, and he carefully covered up his furball with the knickers. DD1 was not impressed...!

Ours also licks paper and plastic bags.

One of my current three is a licky cat. She's also a little fuss - only wants petting on her own terms (usually when I'm in bed and wanting to go to sleep!)

The other two aren't lickers at all. They'll groom each other, but not me.

I used to have an MC who seemed to think that if I was grooming her (Oh the mats she would get in her fur. Beautiful, but not the most practical!) then it was fair game for her to start grooming me. I do miss having an MC around. My girl was beautiful, and had such a lovely temperament. She didn't much like my other cats though, and did like roaming the countryside (hence the ever-tangled fur!)

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 12/05/2011 23:10

Haha, yes to the scraping!

We have a water fountain that he's forever getting his claws stuck in as tries to scrape the top of it Grin

peeriebear · 12/05/2011 23:10

My old Burmese cross was a licker. He would lick my face and hands all over, especially if I had make up or hand cream on (followed by a wash by me!) I miss him :( Current puss is a non- licker.
