A torch that detects cat urine

I bought one. Baically a UV light. It is supposed to detect cat wee but I couldn't find a drop even though I could smell itHmm

Am I doing it wrong or are these things a con?

This is the one I have and I used it in the dark and in a low light with equally hopeless results.

It should work - cat urine definitely glows under UV even if its dry. It glows yellowish.

Are you just checking where you think the urine is? Make sure you're checking up the walls, under furniture etc. Its funny where cats go, usually not where you think it is.

thats weird, I got one (not the same model, another one from amazon) and it works brilliantly - quite scary when you see the sprays glowing back at you!
are you doing it in the dark? it has to be completely dark and my cat only ever did it on vertical surfaces (doors, frames, cabinets, curtains....) also, is usually one little spritz (if it's spraying) about 8 inches off the ground.
If it's peeing you would find a pool of it and it would be on the ground as they squat......so puddle would show up with torch???

Well I am obviously AM doing it wrong, so will try again in the pitch black and see what happens. We have a double problem - strange tom cat comes in and sprays occasionally, which causes our cat to start weeing in cornersHmm I can definitely smell something in the sitting room but I was hoping to locate by torch rather than by sniffing the carpet ugh!

Thanks for replying. It's good to know I haven't wasted £10.

ugggh....my cat sprayed when we had an intruder.....have you thought about a microchip catflap? I had problems for 6 months.....!
The Petporte is no good as the intruder can still break in, the best one is the smart flap, it's £80 but so worth it....as soon as the intruder stopped coming in my cat stopped spraying!
and yes, I was on my hands and knees sniffing carpet.....! :)
btw when you do locate it, make sure you use an enzyme cleaner or the cat will keep going back to same spot, good luck!
