Cat has just had kittens

She had two this morning on my bed. Have moved her into a basket with some soft bedding and she seemed fine there.

But now she keeps trying to move thm under my 2 year old DS bed. Obviously they can;t stay there!

I've tried putting her and kittens back in the basket, but she has put them under my blanket and she is lying on top of it.

She is crying to get in DS's room.

What do I do?

Is there a reason why the kittens can't go in DS's room? She obviously feels safe there. She is looking for a safe place, she's probably going to have more kittens in a few hours. When it's all over then you can move them.

kittyfiasco · 26/02/2011 13:18

More kittens? Shock I hope not.

Yes, there is no way she can stay in DS's room as he will hurt them. He is only 2 and doesn't understand that he has to leave them alone.

I would prefer them to stay in m room out of harms way. I can't understand why she wants to move them, she is safe in there, I've kept the curtains closed so it is dark and it's quiet.

Is it cold in M's room? I understand why you don't want to leave a two year old in a room with a birthing cat! Not least because she will bite him or eat the kittens if he interferes. :(

Do you have an airing cupboard?

kittyfiasco · 26/02/2011 13:22

No :( He won't sleep in my bed with me, prefers his own.

I tried building a nest under DS1's bed as he is older and won't touch them. She sleeps on his bed at night. She won;t go there either.
Grrrrr.

Really don;t know what to do for her.

No airing cupboard, but have a cupboard in the bathroom, will clear that out and look.

Should I maybe change the bedding in the basket I made for her? So that it is clean again.

She's padding around mewling is she? You just need to leave her to it- once the kittens are all out she'll calm down and you can move her. Don't worry. They do this. Remember what you were like when you were waiting to give birth? Wink

kittyfiasco · 26/02/2011 13:27

I can't remember walking around meowing Wink

She could have more and until you're sure thats it then leave her to have them where she chooses.
She may be distressed at not getting back into that room espcially if she isn't finished and hasn't cleaned up yet.

kittyfiasco · 26/02/2011 13:31

She had the kittens on my bed, she has hidden the kittens under my blanket atm.

DS is having a nap, so can't let her in there. She has calmed donw now, will go check what she is up to.

Ok, not wanting to panic you but do check that they have ample breathing room.

We have had 2 cats that had kittens. The first cat coped really well but did take one out of the cat flap into next doors garden (we did get it back!)

The second laid on one of hers and suffocated it Sad
The other 2 kittens were fine though x

kittyfiasco · 26/02/2011 14:22

Yes I've checked they have lots of breathing room. Cat has come downstairs to sleep and the ittens are still asleep under my blanket. Have made an igloo shape so they have room to breathe.

DS1 has a built in cupboard in his room, so have cleared that all out of the crap that was being stored in there. Will wait for Dh to come in and try see if she will let him move the kittens there. She is DH's cat and sits by the window waiting for him to come home Hmm

Lol.....Our cat moved the kittens 3 or 4 times in the first few days Smile They relax a lot more after the first few days. Lots of fun ahead though :)
