blood in cat's poo

Can anyone suggest a reason why my 12 year old male cat may be passing bloody stools? He seems otherwise healthy and due to his age (and hatred of car journeys/vet) I am reluctant to subject him to a lot of tests at the vets without good cause. What do you think?

It could just be a relatively minor infection, upset tummy over food or I think that worms sometimes cause bloody stools. So it's very possible it's not much to worry about and very easy for the vet to sort out without lots of tests. Of course it could be something more serious and may involve lots of testing - sorry not very helpful!

I probably take my cats to the vets over this but they are much younger and don't mind the car journey.

You could always monitor for a few days and see what happens or you could ring the vets - my vet is usually happy to provide advice over the phone.

ok, thanks, I think I will give them a ring.

Have had a similar problem with our cat and the vet was not too worried. She recommended a change in diet and that seems to have helped.

we have recently changed them to dry food so I think you could be on to something there connor.
