She came from the rescue centre yesterday and has settled right in, this morning she nuzzled DS1 on his face and immediately he came up in red angry hives right across his face :(

I'm going to have to take her back aren't I :(

I don't want to give you false hope but about 5 years ago we got a rescue cat. WIthin a couple of hours I was sneezing and covered in hives.

After about 48 hours they all disappeared and I have been fine ever since.

I think it may have been residue from the bedding he had been sleeping in causing the reaction.

Do you know if she was de-flead immediatley before coming to you?

I am allergic to cats. We didn't have a cat for about 18 months. We got another 2 cats for the first 3 weeks it was horrendous I was find it difficult to sleep as I was wheezy then I adjusted and it was fine.

Obviously if I touch them and then rub my eyes they itch like mad. if they lick me it itches like mad, if their claws break my skin (not that it hurts must be microscopic) it itches like mad.

Generallly though I don't find it an issue and we have affectionate cats. I stroke them and wash my hands afterwards, don't let them sleep with us at night etc.

Thank you all, unfortunately DS1 is only 3 so it would be hard to completely stop her licking and nuzzling him (she is a very nuzzly cat) or stop him from rubbing his eyes after touching her. I'm particularly worried that he might develop asthma (he has eczema and other allergies).

I know she hasn't been deflead as they told us to make sure we'd done her before she first went out.
