Cat insurance question

We have a lovely rescue cat, we were told she was born about January 2007 when we got her although of course we knew that was just an estimate.

She has seen my local vet a few times for vaccinations and again recently has seen 3 locum vets when she started having trouble with her teeth.

The thing that's worrying me is the last vet to see her said there's no way she's only 3-4 years old; she must be at least 8.
He hasn't changed her record card, but might have recorded it on the computer.

Anyway how do I stand re my insurance? Do I need to inform them? I'm a bit doubtful about it TBH all the people at the rescue centre and my own vet and 2 locums agreed(or at least didn't question) her age.

Also a bit sad to think her life expectancy is so reduced.

I would tell the insures, it shouldn't make a differenced to your premium/cover if you tell them now but could cause problems later on if you needed to claim and her age came out then.

I had a similar issue a few years ago with a horse, she was originally vetted by a vet that turned out to be dodgy and he gave a false age, a few years later she had a nasty injury which resulted in a hefty bill. My own vet aged her almost 10years older than the original one, wrote a letter to insurers on my behalf and they still paid all bills :-)

I'd go into the vets and tell them you need to know her age for insurance, repeating what the last vet said.

Estimating cats age can be very difficult usually based on staining and tartar on teeth, but diet affects this alot. Often I give a guesstimate of between 4 and 8 so if you adopted your cat this year this would be the range.
