Are Persian cats normally this clumsy?

My five month old persian female has been with us since Sunday afternoon and doesn't seem to be settling brilliantly. She cowers behind the sofa in a corner unless it is just me and her in the room when she will venture out and lay next to me. Earlier she came out, and poo'd in the baby's chair right in front of us having previously used the litter tray every time.

My main question though, is should she seem clumsy? For a young kitten she doesn't seem very agile, ie she cant jump up on the sofa in one smooth movement like our other kitten can, and when she lays down she just kind of flops. I though cats were supposed to be elegant and graceful creatures? Does she sound like a noaml Persian or is her clumsiness out of character for a cat?

We got ours when she was about 5 but IME Persian's aren't very cat like.

Ours has regular check ups so no health issues she's just a bit dense - almost slightly forgetful - walks into walls / doors; forgets where litter tray is; forgets where her food is

Ours was. walked into walls. forgot where his food was. really thick.

The only time he caught a bird was when i was gardening and it flew out of the bush into his mouth.

The only time I saw him jump a wall was when he was chased by next door's dog. Even then, he landed in a bush. the most ungraceful cat ever.

On the plus side, we always knew if he was on the worktop because whne he landed, it sounded like a sack of spuds.

I have known 2 Persians- neither of whom seemed particularly bright or graceful. One I know had sight issues due to the flatness of her face. The other one was just a bit simple. Both were very nervy though.

Is she a thorough-bred?

Ours we had when I was younger used to let me wrap him up in a blanket and put him in a buggy. They are very docile.

However my 1/4 persian Bob is very special but he was in his birth sac too long so we think he was deprived of air a bit and is now a bit dopey.

MIL used to breed them and has continued to have them. They generally seem thick, timid and docile.

It's has taken the youngest one (nicknamed stumpy due to seemingly extra short legs) 2 years to realise he can get onto the kitchen worktop by using the bin lid as a half way platform

They seem to all have been quite greedy though too.

Its actually reassuring to know we're not the only ones with a simple cat - DH calls her 'Tim nice but dim cat' as opposed to the other moggy who is a true arrogant bastard cat

A friend of mine has a rather dimwitted Persian who her hubby addresses as 'clodhopper' due to the cat's total lack of grace.

I also used to work with a girl whose goofy Persian cat fell off a chair and seriously injured itself - I had no idea until then that any cat could be so amazingly ungraceful.

All cats are individuals though - My two are total opposites. I've got a sweet fluffy bumbler who is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic, and a slick, smart coolcat who likes to murder anything that moves. They get on surprisingly well really.

I've got a Birman (similar breed) this cat is also very dim. It follows me around all the time and flops over under my feet; its always getting trodden on but never seems to learn. It belonged to my mum, but after she broke her ankle and spent ten weeks in hospital I took it in as its too risky that she will fall over it

same here.. i have a cream doll face persian and shes a clumsycat! very very loving tho!
