Am I doing the right thing?

I was due to take on two kittens tomorrow from the RSPCA, one girl and one boy.

I had a call today from the RSPCA telling me that unfortunately the little man died suddenly last night :(

I am totally gutted and my daughter is pretty upset by it.

They assure me that the little girl is fit and well, but they cannot be sure if the little man died of a clot, some genetic abnormality or some problem with his heart.

Now i know nothing is guaranteed as the mum and her kittens were dumped in a cardboard box (bastards! ) so they don't know their history. But would you still take the kitten on? I am thinking of taking the mum on too. She is just 9 months old so they think it is her first litter.

I have a 4 year old Tom cat with a blood disorder (not catching) so I really don't think I could cope with another one of my pets with a long term illness :( I also lost a cat to cancer 3 years ago, and that still hurts.

Part of me thinks to take the plunge and go with the adoption but then I do have a few niggles.

I am such a big softy but I know if I take them on, I will worry about the little girl constantly!

I don't think they ever come with a guarantee. I had a little cat who died suddenlty at 7 years old because of a heart murmour. Her mother and brother were both fine and lived long happy lives - she was just unlucky. Up until she died, she was active fit and well so although her life was shortened, she had a great time while she was here!

As pjmama says there are no guarantees. I would probably still take them on but as you know vet bills are expensive so ensuring you have good insurance might be your best bet.
