How does one train a young cat to go to the toilet outside?

I have 2 cats who are 15 weeks old. And have for the last week have been going outside into the garden.

Because I can't stand the smell of the litter tay, when they are outside I remove the litter tray to by the back door.

The cats since day one have always been very good at using their litter tray. But now when its outside one cat will happily use it, but the other will come into the lounge (nowhere near the litter tray is normally kept) and meow pittifully at the fireplace, until I bring the litter tray in then he'll use it.

I have tried taking him out to the litter tray, but he just jumps out of it and runs back to the lounge.

I am now concerned that I won't be able to get him to go in the garden full stop.

There's a large secluded bush that my plan was to move the litter tray to this bush once they were used to going outside, and then as they have the eco wood chips putting some of that under the bush to encourage them to use this location as toilet.

Any tips please?

I was going to suggest gradually moving the litter tray a foot at a time until its outside?

Could you maybe start feeding him at the fireplace to break the association he has with that spot.

I'm no expert on this and wouldnt want to traumatise him. Maybe someone will be along who has had this same problem.

move the litter tray just outside the door and then move it towards the flowerbeds, then just stop emptying it. it will then shit next to it and you can take the tray away completely

Because its raining where we are - neither have gone out today. He's just walked into the lounge, and weed behind the TV with no warning.

HELP!

Hi Colapips, I feel for you.
Needs to be sorted soon while he's young. Suggest putting it on Chat or AIBU to get more help.
Good luck.
