Lightweight waterproof

I need to buy a new lightweight waterproof for hiking in the summer. Ideally, I’d like something that comes down below the hips.

I don’t want to pay hundreds however would pay certainly up to £100. Any recommendations please?

Watching with interest as I need one of these too.

No idea why my reply has been hidden/reported! It’s just a link to my waterproof jacket 😆

I bought this Trespass jacket recently and I’m really pleased with it. Waterproof, wind proof and breathable. Zipped pockets. Nice lined hood. It comes in a selection of colours. I bought navy. It’s currently £39 on Amazon.

I got this exact one recently too in the blue. I bought it as it’s nice and thin to carry in a bag but still a decent waterproof with hood and zipped pockets. Covers my bum. Probably wouldn’t withstand a long hike in pouring rain but wore in a heavy shower or two this weekend and it kept me dry. Only thing I would prefer is a structured front bit on the hood like my thicker waterproof but can’t have it all and this is so much easier to carry.

I impulse bought a Size L Nike lightweight waterproof warm jacket which covers my hips in TK Maxx for a tenner.

It has been hanging up in the hall and used as ‘the family coat’ for years, as it’s brilliant in wet windy weather. It’s black with red lining, lots of pockets and a hood.

Obviously it’s not so brilliant for those boycotting Nike but that’s another thread, really.

Ad MN doesn’t like the name of my jacket I will post screenshots.

Hurrah!

Thank you everyone! I will look at all of these after work today. I do need something as waterproof as possible because I’m going to be long-distance hiking, although it will be August we all know what that can mean in the UK.

I bought this. It’s half price so for £45, which is a bargain.
sizing is good, fit is good and it looks quite smart. I wore it on a 17 mile hike recently, was blasted with sideways rain, wind and hail and resisted it all. And folded up small to go in my bag when the rain came out

Here are screenshots regarding the waterproof spec. It’s double Dutch to me but if you are a serious hiker you might know if it meets your needs.

Berghaus make one of the widest range of fits of any outdoor brand. They also still make some longer fits.
If it's a long distance walk, I would look for something that's properly waterproof not just a softshell as some are linked above.
I've a Berghaus Paclite and it's great.
Fiona Outdoors also does lots of reviews of jackets and more, worth a browse.

I know not everyone is a fan of Vinted but I got a great Berghaus waterproof for £15, RRP over £100, and barely used.

MoonWoman69 · 18/05/2026 08:24

I have a Berghaus jacket for that. I've got the same as you're describing, I've had it years and it's still going strong. Lightweight, ideal for walking and hiking. Takes a good shower. Have a look at Go Outdoors, they have quite a large range. Good luck!

If you look on the North Face website they have a number under £100 reduced from last season’s colour range.
