Has anyone climbed Helvellyn via Striding Edge?

.....and if so is it as scary as it looks? I've been thinking about the Wainwright coast to coast and I think this is on the itinerary as an option. But I get nervous looking at pictures of it. Be grateful for honest opinions. DH and I do a lot of walking on the SW coast path and I've done the Two Moors Way so we are not walking novices

I've done it a few times. I am good at heights and also scrambling.
My best advice is to make sure the weather is settled. I wouldn't dream of doing it in bad conditions.
As others have said, it gets really busy during summer holidays, bank holidays and weekends so pick your time wisely if you can.

Yes, I found it quite scary, you have to properly scramble at points towards the end of it (although I am very short of leg so am a bit crap anyway!)

It's great though, Hellvellyn is a wonderful mountain!
