Geocaching - Is it still a thing?

I have just bought my BIL a book about it for his birthday, and then I wondered if people still do it, and if the caches are all still there?
BILs and 3DCs are living on the coast during lockdown, and thought this would be fun to do during exercise...
Please reassure me it's all still up and running.

yes, very much so. Although touching stuff is an issue at the moment.

the cache I placed was found 4 times during the day of March 23 and hasn't been found since. Although that could be because all the locals have now found it.

he'll need either a GPS unit or a smartphone with suitable functionality, I think most have that.
