Baby in the garden

We are very fortunate to have a garden now that we are all stuck at home so my eldest two can run about and let of steam....however the little one is barely walking and still wants to crawl about. It’s really muddy still so I don’t want him to let him crawl about in the mud but equally he is too heavy to hold all the time and would become really annoyed if I tried anyway! Can anyone suggest any tips of how to have him able to move about without getting caked in mud? Toys etc?

If its really muddy a lot of ride ons will be too heavy for him to move I think. Could you put down a picnic blanket and keep him on that. I know it sounds mad but dd1 & dd2 nursery did limit where they went outside by just constantly bring them back and taking them in if not. Or could you get a play pen for outside. Or just let him get muddy and move bathtime to straight after garden?

Have you tried a blow up pool with toys in? He can crawl around and play? Put a blanket on the floor inside??

Don't know if that would work for you but I had one when my girls were little and just rolling around a bit but not crawling x

Puddle suit. Let kids be muddy!

Mud trousers?

We found the foam mats excellent for this and just hosed them down after and they were ready for the next time!

We got a big (cheap) rug to put outside for the babies and just kept it in the shed.

A big camping tarpaulin.

I second the puddle suit. I'd stick him in the puddle suit and let him explore and play. No issues if the suit is muddy because that's what it's for.
