Anybody walked the Ridgeway?

I'm looking at walking the Ridgeway (me and DH) but 8 days walking at medium pace, staying at B&Bs and buying evening meals and lunches etc is working out really expensive.
Between we are looking at nearly a grand!
Has anybody done this walk and how did you do it (accommodation) and can I ask roughly how much it cost?

Sounds about right if you want to stay in B&Bs and take 8 days.

Can you up the distance slightly, do it in 6 days which is more typical, and stay at both the YH en route so you need fewer nights in more expensive accommodation?
