Geocaching for Luddites: is there any point?

I'm thinking of getting the kids geocaching to add another layer of interest to our cruel parenting experiments family walks.

Neither DH or I have smartphones. DH has a Garmin for his running which presumably has some sort of GPS capability but I don't know how usable it would be.

Do we need more kit? Or is there another way of doing this I don't know about?

(I grew up letter boxing on Dartmoor with my Dad but I assume that's sort of died out now with the hi-tech version?)

I'm not very techy myself, but as no one else has answered I'll have a go.

We love geocaching and it's great for walks and even in your local area it will show you areas and walks you haven't been to before.

If you go to www.geocaching.com and find your local area and find a cache you'd like to try. Enter the co-ords into the garmin and go and find the cache.

Most serious cachers use a garmin and don't use smartphones anyway.

Hope that helps you.
