Iceland March 2015 Do I Need Insulated Trousers?

I have the opportunity to go to Iceland hopefully to see the Northern Lights in March 2015. I have most of the gear but wondering would I need insulated ski trousers? I'm not a skier so wouldn't get much use out of them if I had to buy. Was planning on thermal tights, cotton outdoor trousers and waterproof trousers. We will be glacier walking as part of the trip. I feel the cold so don't want to be cold and wet as it will be pretty miserable. So do you think I should be some or should I be ok without?

TIA!

I wore proper ski trousers when we went in April 2010. I was bloody glad I had them, the wind was brutal. I didn't need them in Reykjavik but the further south and west we went, the more exposed it is. And if you're going to go up on a glacier you will definitely need something really (really) warm.

If you're a size 14, you can borrow mine. Happy to post them, I've just had a baby, I won't need them for a while (assuming they ever fit again)!!

You can get really cheap ski wear in tk maxx

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle thank you that's really kind though I'm not a size 14. That's good to know I was in Northern India last year and it was soooooo cold I was totally unprepared for it so want to get it right. So it looks like I do need them. What did you think to Iceland and did you see the Northern Lights?
ItsAllGoingToBeFine great idea thanks I didn't even think of looking in TK Maxx. I will check it out.

We didn't see the Northern Lights, April is too late unless you're incredibly lucky. You might be ok in March, we met some people who had seen them a couple of weeks before we arrived.

Oh and our trip got hijacked by the volcano, we were evacuated from our accommodation at 2am and had to change our entire itinerary. But I loved the country, it's gorgeous.

OK thanks we may make it mid February then maybe more chance though of course nothing is guaranteed.

Oh no that's terrible, hopefully your new itinerary was just as good. Thinking of doing the whale spotting though that might be too cold for me!
