Geocaching in US - what maps for GPS?

That's it really - has anyone done it - what maps did you use? I can see there are loads of free ones out there but not quite sure how you get them onto the GPS

Your handheld GPS should have a worldwide basemap so if you key in any coordinate it will point towards it, giving the distance and direction. If you're just using your GPS for geocaching you shouldn't need to download any maps. Just use it like an Etrex H.
