Best route up Scafell Pike with DS?

Did Snowdon with my DS a couple of years ago, and he's determined that he wants to have done the highest mountain in England too, so planning a trip to the lakes this summer. DS is 12 and a keen walker. Me too, but I've not done Scafell Pike before.

Any recommendations for the best route up? He likes walking best when it's varied and interesting and a bit of a challenge - easy scrambling is good.

Planning to stay at a hostel near to whichever route we take up, so recommendations there too appreciated!

I went up (ages ago) from Borrowdale - Seathwaite or Seatoller - via Styhead tarn and then the Brown Tongue. then down over great End and Glaramara, which added a detour, but made a very spectacular walk. Nothing like being on top of Scafell Pike.

I think there are some B&B places in Seatoller or Seathwaite - one of which might be a NT one. Or there is a good bus shuttle into Borrowdale from Keswick, I think.

You can go up from Wasdale, but it is harder to get to wasdale from most places, and I have been told that the route is not as enjoyable. But I think it's shorter. Get a Wainwright or other good guide from the library and have a browse. You can google some routes as well.
