Has anyone been to Brimham Rocks or Rievaulx Terrace? Which is better? I get to choose a day out for Mother's Day (me, dh and dd - I get to be the mother instead of the daughter this year!). Any other good nt sites around York or Leeds area anyone can recommend? Thanks

Brimham Rock is good but i haven't been to Rievaulx. There's also Fountains Abbey which is NT. Great for a walk plus there's a playground fro your DD and a teashop for lunch.

One of our favourite places to visit (which isn't NT) is the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. There's a new Miró exhibition opening this weekend too.

Oooh I forgot about Fountains Abbey. Love Yorkshire Sculpture Park but really want to get the most out of nt membership. Miro exhibition sounds very tempting though, do you know how long it's there for?

On a similar theme, I've just looked and there's a Dali exhibition at Nunnington Hall this weekend too, which is nt. Is Nunnington Hall worth a trip?

The Miró exhibition only opens on Saturday so it'll be there for a few months i think. I've haven't been to Nunnington Hall but the Dali liiks interesting. Maybe i should persuade DH/DCs to go there for my Mothers Day treat (on Sat as we're cycling on Sunday).

Rievaulx Terrace is ok but Rievaulx Abbey is really good. It's a lovely spot with some really nice walks round there.

Nunnington is nice. Lovely gardens and tea room.

Beningbrough Hall is another good NT one near York. There's a good play area there if your dd is play area age.

Well, ended up at Hardwick Hall in the end, not Yorkshire I know, but worth a visit if you're nearby imo.

We used to live in Thirsk so you've got me all nostalgicSmile

Brimham Rocks is great with kids. Love Fountains/Studely Royal. Like Rievaulx abbey, Beningbrough and Nunnington. They're all worth visiting.

The other one more towards Leeds IIRC is Nostell - not so familiar with that but if you're members def should be worth a visit.

There are quite a lot of good English Heritage sites in Yorkshire too, we don't bother with membership where we live now but was worth having over there.

Just had a day out at Newby Hall,
great day and bumped into collection of
Dali sculpture! Defo worth a visit

GrimmaTheNome · 01/04/2012 18:57

Newby Hall was our absolute favourite garden when we lived over there, even though it wasnt NT.

Castle Howard, or RHS Harlow Carr - just so you can eat half of Betty's tea shop.
