outdoorsy shite: delaminating rucksack

I have a fabulous 40l rucksack which had some element of waterproofing 20 years ago it is now flaking off quite badly to the extent that anything I put in there just gets covered in small rubbery flakes.

Do I give up and bin the rucksack or should I just pick off the flakes one by one.

Anybody else had to do this? Would a pressure washer work?

I'm off to start a thread on preventing trenchfoot and whether duct tape is good for preventing blisters.

Give up and bin the rucksack (and i speak as someone unnaturally attached to her own, ancient, delaminating rucksack). And then start a lovely thread about new rucksacks.

I'd bin it. Life is too short to get wet kit.

If you are very attached could you use a suitably sized liner inside it (podsac are good)? That will at least keep your stuff dry and rubber bit free.

Think I might go with sheep's suggestion and rely on a liner.

I'd forgotten that I used to use a liner when I walked properly. I stopped when I spent more time climbing because the gear kept ripping the liner!

I suspect that the bin may be the only home for it. Liner will help prolong its life though. Poor rucksack...
