I found this raised spot on my dog yesterday. I made a vets appointment but now i cannot the spot on the dog. He is very fluffy and multiple searches have not shown this raised spot again!

No picture yet but is it a tick? Could've fallen off by now.

Also the best way to find it is to use both hands with your index and middle fingers facing forwards and leaf through the hair like you're counting bank notes in a bank. Then move to the next row of hair and work your way against the growth.

It could be a tick. If it has fallen off do we still need to go to vets?

He is on anti tick medication but his fur is very long and so hard to see if there is anything in there!

You don’t need the vet for ticks

Italiangreyhound · 09/10/2026 23:00

If it has fallen off, does that mean it's left the body inside the pet?

If it’s a tick and fallen off it won’t leave anything behind.

Thank you.

just fyi ticks jump onto living things, feed on their blood, and fall off when they are full.

then they jump onto the next living thing that passes by in order to feed again.

so clean and hoover thoroughly as it may have fallen onto your carpet or sofa, dog bedding, your bedding etc. and be waiting to jump back on.

i had one last year. it must have been on the long grass and climbed onto my bare leg. it buried it’s head in my body and started drinking my blood. gross.

i had to get a tick remover tool from the chemist for £2 to twist it until it presumably got dizzy and fell off me. i then killed it. they are tiny. but carry lymes disease in some parts of the country so you dont want them.

you might want to buy a tool in advance of need. inevitably you notice them at night and want them off immediately. i think supermarkets have them next to the wormers etc.

be careful what I thought was a tick turned out to be a wart which had to be removed under sedation. If unsure take to vet

Our dog had cancer a few years ago so we have to watch out for skin 'issues'.

We took dog to the vet and it is not a tick or cancer (it was harmless). Thanks for the hand holding.

Great news ! What was it? May help someone else going through the same

The vet said it was a pigment, he had got a small injury and the skin had been affected.
