Budget friendly grain free homemade dog treats for a sensitive tummy

Any hints or tips for grain free, budget friendly home made dog treats? Liver is a bit rich for my fella who has a sensitive tummy. I don’t really want to have the oven on for hours, and have no air fryer or dehydrator.

Thanks.

Does he need treats?

I make tuna bread in the microwave. Not sure if it counts as grain free though. You could use a different type of flour, if your dog can't tolerate plain.

1 tin of tuna in sunflower oil
1 egg
Enough plain flour to make it like pastry dough.
Mix together. Flatten out on a microwaveable plate and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Or sausages, cocktail sausages, cheese, any left over roast meat. I've also microwaved chicken breasts to use.

Yes, rewards have always been part of his training.

Sadly the flour counts as grain. I agree about the wet treats but would love to make a dry one, with something like sweet potatoes and stock maybe?

@AtlasPine You can get grain free flours - coconut, chickpea, almond for example. Not sure they are budget friendly, but you'd make a lot of treats from one bag.

What does your dog eat? I had a dog with IBD who could only eat hypoallergenic food. I put a cupful in a blender and blitzed it. Added water until it was a paste. Spread it on a baking tray and cooked it on a low heat. Then cut it up into biscuit treats.

Cheap white frozen fish fillets. Cook them in the oven as you would normally and then let them dry out on a lower heat. Probably need an hour all together.

That’s a good idea. I can use his kibble and take it out of his food allowance but he always looks disappointed when he’s done a job and just got a bit of the dinner he would have had anyway!

I’ll see if any of those flours might work.

He eats a whole prey food called Akela which has an ingredient list which is mouthwatering!

Not homemade but mine love the fish skin cubes by Skippers.
