Good trousers for walking the dog in the rain which work if you’re pear shaped & short

5 months into having a dog and these are the first real days of rain that we’ve had. I’ve realised that, as well as getting the dog some sort of coat, I need to get myself some trousers. Rookie error a couple of days ago of being caught in a downpour in jeans but then my leggings were pretty uncomfortable yesterday.
I’ve always hated those thin waterproof over trousers. The DC have some brilliant trousers by Canterbury for sport which are shower proof and have zips up to the knee so you can get them up & down. They, though, are designed for an up & down figure and a pair which gets over my hips & bum is ridiculous in the waist. Any suggestions? Bonus points if you can get them in petite.
And, yes, I acknowledge that this is a bit niche and I could just get on with walking the dog in every day clothes which is exactly what I did when I last had a dog as a teen. I feel things have evolved and that someone must have noticed this issue and decided to monetise it.

I wear Peter Storm lightweight walking trousers. They aren't waterproof, but they do dry very quickly if you get caught in the rain.
They come in petite, but I don't know about bum/hips to waist ratio.

M & S have stormwear as part of the good move range. I have 2 pairs of leggings that I love and wear all the time for hiking in the wet.
Currently only one style of trousers on the website, but they usually have a few kinds as part of the winter stock so worth having a look in a few weeks.

I have some M&S walking leggings that are perfect for dog walking in because the dry really well and fit in my ankle wellies. I think they are Go Move or something like that.

Make sure you find a coat long enough to cover your bum but not so bulky you can't manage stiles.

Dogs are amazing.

Daughters have trousers from here for hiking, d of E etc. they were expensive but have lasted well and they do Winter and Summer weights etc. They would be great for wet Winter dog walks.

I’ve got some legging type walking trousers from next. Elements I think their outdoor stuff is called. They have good pockets are warm. They aren’t waterproof but I’ve never felt wet or cold in them.

Craghopper used to do high waisted trousers but can’t find them on their website. Maybe some on vinted. As a pear, they fit me so
much better than the non high waisted pear I have.

i’ve sized up asi don’t like tight fitting walking trousers.

Ooohhh!! Thanks for all of the suggestions. This was one of those posts where I was half expecting to get laughed at but instead I have lots of useful ideas. I’m about to do some ordering!

I wear Sweaty Betty Explorer trousers. Lightweight, breathable, dry quickly if they get wet and actually look smart! I have a few pairs and end up wearing them most days they are so comfortable. Are bit expensive but honestly worth the investment.
