Good trousers for walking the dog in the rain which work if you’re pear shaped & short

5 months into having a dog and these are the first real days of rain that we’ve had. I’ve realised that, as well as getting the dog some sort of coat, I need to get myself some trousers. Rookie error a couple of days ago of being caught in a downpour in jeans but then my leggings were pretty uncomfortable yesterday.
I’ve always hated those thin waterproof over trousers. The DC have some brilliant trousers by Canterbury for sport which are shower proof and have zips up to the knee so you can get them up & down. They, though, are designed for an up & down figure and a pair which gets over my hips & bum is ridiculous in the waist. Any suggestions? Bonus points if you can get them in petite.
And, yes, I acknowledge that this is a bit niche and I could just get on with walking the dog in every day clothes which is exactly what I did when I last had a dog as a teen. I feel things have evolved and that someone must have noticed this issue and decided to monetise it.

I wear Peter Storm lightweight walking trousers. They aren't waterproof, but they do dry very quickly if you get caught in the rain.
They come in petite, but I don't know about bum/hips to waist ratio.

M & S have stormwear as part of the good move range. I have 2 pairs of leggings that I love and wear all the time for hiking in the wet.
Currently only one style of trousers on the website, but they usually have a few kinds as part of the winter stock so worth having a look in a few weeks.

I have some M&S walking leggings that are perfect for dog walking in because the dry really well and fit in my ankle wellies. I think they are Go Move or something like that.

Make sure you find a coat long enough to cover your bum but not so bulky you can't manage stiles.

Dogs are amazing.

Daughters have trousers from here for hiking, d of E etc. they were expensive but have lasted well and they do Winter and Summer weights etc. They would be great for wet Winter dog walks.

I’ve got some legging type walking trousers from next. Elements I think their outdoor stuff is called. They have good pockets are warm. They aren’t waterproof but I’ve never felt wet or cold in them.

Craghopper used to do high waisted trousers but can’t find them on their website. Maybe some on vinted. As a pear, they fit me so
much better than the non high waisted pear I have.

I wear Sweaty Betty Explorer trousers. Lightweight, breathable, dry quickly if they get wet and actually look smart! I have a few pairs and end up wearing them most days they are so comfortable. Are bit expensive but honestly worth the investment.

Another vote for Craghoppers. Mine dry so quickly if they get very wet and repel light rain.

I second... third or whatever Hiking Trousers or leggings.

As others have said, some are not particularly water proof but they are definitely quick drying and some of the more expensive fabrics will keep you warm as long as you are moving (a bit like an wetsuit effect). Even when the weather turns colder and more wet.

For the doggo, I suggest the equafleece summer suit - works well for my little ball junkie! (She was clean & only slightly damp underneath!)

DPup has an Equafleece and came home from the walks in a much better state than me! That was what led me to start the thread. I need the human version!

I am a chubby and short dog walker and my go to trousers are Craghopper Kiwis. They aren’t waterproof but are really stretchy and comfortable and come in a short length. They dry really quickly so much better than jeans. I wear a knee length waterproof jacket (a Joules Holkham) that I can layer underneath if I need more warmth. With a long coat rather than a jacket I don’t find that I need waterproof trousers. I have a more technical goretex waterproof jacket but I only really need that if the weather is extreme.

I do have a pair of Craghopper Aysgarth waterproof trousers but they are lined and really warm. I really only use them on the coldest winter days.

Another vote for ACAI. I work outdoors and wore the stroll trousers for work for a couple of years (i had 4 pairs!). They are a good fit for pear shape. The shorts are also great.

I now wear Artcteryx gamma which are another level for quick drying after rain spells. Very expensive though so i bought on sale and will get good wear out of them.

The acai I would say are a more flattering shape but not quite so quick drying after heavy rain.
